Even though Crestone and the surrounding
area has a permanent population of about 400 people, it has
numerous spiritual groups. Some
of the spiritual groups are Carmelite Monastery Retreat, Haidakhandi
Universal Ashram, the Japanese Shumei International Institute,
the Crestone Mountain Zen Center (which has the Lindisfarne
Chapel), the Tashi Gomang Stupa group who sponsored the building
of the Karmapa stupa and now have a center at the Padmasambhava
stupa house, the Sri Aurobindo Learning Center, Yeshe Khorlo
under the direction of Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche from Bhutan,
Sanctuary House which has a labyrinth with an exact duplicate
of the labyrinth of Chartes cathedral, the Crestone Baptist
Church, Suncircle which houses Native American meditation objects,
Tibetan Peace Park which has information on the destruction
of monasteries and torture of the Tibetan people, Pundarika
under the direction of Tsoknyi Rinpoche, and Samten Ling a long
time retreat center with 15 cabins under the direction of Dzigar
Kongtrul Rinpoche.
