TRAVEL TO NEPAL
UPDATE - JULY 2007
It is not unsafe to be in Nepal. Many foreigners come here as tourists and many live here.
There is not a war with the Maoists as they have joined the government. There is some civil unrest here and there, especially in the Terai region in the south. It seems that the only difficulty for foreigners is the frequent transportation strikes. However these strikes are sporadic. Sometimes there are many and sometimes almost none. There is a move these days to ban strikes.I have lived here many years and do not feel unsafe. Many tourists are coming here, especially since the war ended. People are going trekking in the mountains and large teams are still scaling Mount Everest. There’s many foreign Buddhists living and studying in Boudha, the main Buddhist area of temples. We hear of very few difficulties. As it is a poor country, sometimes people are robbed but that can happen in any country. One just needs to be careful.
