NOTE: THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

The Very Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche will be giving the empowerment for the heart yidam of the Kagyu lineage, Chakrasamvara, on Saturday and Sunday, October 23-24th, at the USF Lone Mountain Conference Center (Room 148) in San Francisco.

This is a very rare and precious event, as this yidam is one of the highest practices in the lineage, and is rarely given outside of the 3-year retreat program. It is very auspicious to have such blessings bestowed by a master like Thrangu Rinpoche. As Abbot of the Karma Kagyu lineage, and as the primary tutor for His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, Thrangu Rinpoche is renown around the world as one of the leading masters of Mahamudra meditation, as well as a primary lineage holder for the Karma Kagyu lineage.

The empowerment will be given over 4 sessions during the weekend- a morning and afternoon session will occur on both Saturday and Sunday. Rinpoche will teach during one of these 4 sessions on the unity of the Chakrasamvara yidam practice with Mahamudra meditation, while another session will be a meditation with Rinpoche as he does the preparations for the empowerment.

There are no samaya restrictions for taking the empowerment, but refuge is required. By popular request, Rinpoche will give refuge beforehand.. so please request this on your registration if you have not already taken refuge.

There are limited seats for this event, so we urge all serious students to register as soon as possible. Tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Price for the 2-day empowerment is $180 and all proceeds will go directly to Thrangu Rinpoche to help build the Milarepa Tower at his three-year retreat center at Milarepa's Cave in Nepal. If you would like to donate additional funds to help build the Tower, you may include that with your registration.

As a side note, Rinpoche will be giving a public teaching on Mahamudra meditation Friday night (Oct. 22) at 7:30pm at the same USF Lone Mountain location, Room 148. This event will be free, though we encourage you to donate to Rinpoche directly. Seating for this event will be a first-come, first-serve situation.

  • Thrangu Rinpoche will be giving Refuge on the Saturday morning of the empowerment for those who need it
  • Refuge is the only requirement for taking the Chakrasamvara Empowerment
  • Those who register for the 2-day Empowerment will receive a copy of the Chakrasamvara Practice Text, with new english translations!!!
  • If you have completed a 3-year retreat, or are ordained Sangha, you may register for the weekend empowerment for $90, or 50% off.
  • There will be no charge for the Friday evening public teaching, though folks are encouraged to make donations directly to Thrangu Rinpoche. First come, first seated- No registration for the Friday free talk.

Currently, the schedule for the empowerment is:

Saturday: 10:00am – 12:00pm, 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Sunday: 10:00am – 12:00pm, 2:00pm – 4:00pm

(Subject to change per Rinpoche’s request)

Rinpoche will also be teaching Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 25th/26th) at 7:30 pm on the Chakrasamvara practice. These teachings are being hosted separately by Kagyu Droden Kunchab (KDK), and will be in a different location.
